Thank you party...on with the new job

Image
Sid has loved this job and working with his boss and other friends. It was a sweet party with carrot cake just for Sid...(carrot top :) It has been nearly five years at this job and it has been great. He is now on to other challenges and fun at the next job.

2 old favorite songs

Ok, I know these two song are by the Dixie Chicks. They are two of my favorite songs and I stopped listening to them after they made that comment about President Bush a few years ago. I will never buy anything else sung by them but I really love these two songs. I consider them still ok to listen to because it was before they opened their mouths and expressed their political thoughts. Big mistake... it cost them their music careers. I guess they got their wish getting President Bush out of office. As for me...I love that man. I miss him and I think in the not too distant future we will all be missing him tremendously.

Proverbs and the truth about Cats

I borrowed this little blog piece below from Trey Morgan's blog. It was just so good and some of it made me smile, so I thought you might like it too. Thanks Trey!!! The bottom paragraph about Proverbs is so great. I also read one chapter of Proverbs each morning. What a rich wonderful book God gave us in Proverbs. Enjoy! Love, Amy By the way, sorry for always changing my background on this blog, but have you seen how many beautiful backgrounds there are? Good grief, so many beautiful colors to combine, I just have to change it often and enjoy them all! ADVICE: When I run across a good piece of advice I write it down. Here are a few things I've heard from people that I have written down ... The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence, but the water bill is higher too. Jesus was approachable and touchable, I should be too. When depressed, listen to country music. The people in the songs will always be more messed up that you are. Don’t lose sleep over what critics th

Basketball, the Big M and Family

Image
Hey! Exciting night of basketball last night. We beat Alpine and will go on to play again on Sat. night. Will played great and scored 12 points. Casey's team is in the basketball playoffs too and might play close to here on Friday. Hopefully that will work out and we will get a visit in with Brad and Debra. Had a check up yesterday and was informed that I am going through, should I say it? Menopause. ha!!! As if I did not know that. Anyway, just a part of life right? That sweating stuff at night is the pits though. Well, I will leave you with lots of pictures and this scripture for today. Sid sent it to me this morning. I am off for a quick walk and then it is on to the list for today. It is gorgeous outside! I am enjoying the warmer temperatures! Whistle while you work! Have a blessed day! Love, Amy Every choice has eternal consequences so you need to choose wisely: "Since everything around us is going to melt away, what holy, godly lives you should be living!" (2 P

Movies, and we are not moving...

Image
Good Monday morning! These are going to be incredibly random wanderings this morning because my head is hurting and I am floating around in my brain because of the sinus medicine I took at about 6:00am this morning. Anyway, hope that your day is off to a good start. We had great news this last week. We were afraid that we were going to have to look at a job in Tucson, Arizona (no offense to the people who live there and love it) but I did not want to move there. It was just simply too far from all of the people that I love and need to be around! We also had a job possibility in Ft. Worth, and that would have been better because we know and love lots of people there. But, that one did not pan out. So...God was gracious and so abundantly blessed us with a promotion here at home. Sid will now be working as head of fundraising for the Health Science Center instead of the Law School. He is thrilled and we are glad we don't have to move. So, on to other wanderings. Have you ever thought

Camping

Image
Howdy! This time of year we all get excited about spring time and Spring Break Camping! Woo Hoo ! Our tradition has been to head down to Big Bend National Park with the tent and some hot dogs and enjoy the first warm sun of spring time. We have missed this trip the last few years for different reasons but are planning on making it down there this year for old times sake. Nothing like sleeping in a tent and listening to people laughing and talking around you. You also hear the donkey's from across the Rio Grande and the javelina's coming through camp in a big group looking for food. You usually run smack dab into a Mama raccoon and babies when you get up to go to the bathroom at night. (That is a little alarming.) But, not quite as scary as walking to the bathroom a couple of years ago while camping in the Davis Mountains and seeing a Mountain Lion standing right outside the bathroom. Whew... Anyway, we love getting out and seeing the beauty of all that God has created. There

Rocketown

A Friday night affair Out in the city heat Always a party there Along the sordid street And it was guaranteed The place to be was Rocketown The drinks were two for one Inside the crowded bars The girls would make their run Out on the boulevard It was the idol place We lived the ways of Rocketown Hang around by the street light In the heart of the night life There came a certain man A stranger to the crowd We didn't understand What he was all about He walked a different pace So out of place in Rocketown They made a fool of him They teased him when he'd speak But when they knocked him down He'd turn the other cheek He told me I could find A life outside of Rocketown Hang around by the street light In the heart of the night life What was his mission Where was he going Why was his heart light Always glowing All I was missing He stood there holding What was his secret Could I know it Some didn't like him near Some laughed and turned away But me, I longed to hear All that he

Good morning! I love Psalm 46: God is our protection and our strength. He always helps in times of trouble. So we will not be afraid even if the earth shakes, or the mountains fall into the sea, even if the oceans roar and foam,or the mountains shake at the raging sea. Selah There is a river that brings joy to the city of God, the holy place where God Most High lives. God is in that city, and so it will not be shaken. God will help her at dawn. Nations tremble and kingdoms shake. God shouts and the earth crumbles. The Lord All-Powerful is with us; the God of Jacob is our defender. Selah Come and see what the Lord has done, the amazing things he has done on the earth . He stops wars everywhere on the earth. He breaks all bows and spears and burns up the chariots with fire. God says, "Be still and know that I am God. I will be praised in all the nations; I will be praised throughout the earth." The Lord All-Powerful is with us; the God o

Words for the Day

Good morning. It is early. I woke up with a doozy of a sinus headache. It gave me extra time in front of the fire to read a little and pray a lot . So many things that need to be done, that make me feel overwhelmed. And I guess so many things that I want to have answers to and have no control over. I keep having to learn to give it to God and not worry. Why am I so stubborn? Why do I keep giving in to worry instead of resting in the Lord? I just keep telling myself to take it one day at a time and one thing off the list at a time. And most of all that in this moment I will rely on the peace of God. I hope that my day and yours will be productive and joyful. Here are a few verses that I read this morning and will focus on: May the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful. Ps.68:3 Praise be to the Lord, the God our Savior who daily bears our burdens. Ps. 68:19 Righteous: right⋅eous  acting in an upright, moral way; virtuous: a righteous and godly person.

Men...and tv

Howdy! Another Monday morning rolls around! Woo...what a week last week. This one looks to be just about as busy, so hold on!!! Anywho, Picture below is of my Valentines table. Oh, I know it is not much but hey, I live with three men. They could care less if the table looked festive or not. I guess I did it for me. Come to think of it I did do it mostly for me and I enjoyed it. Bought my own chocolate too! Ha! Actually, my men are wonderful and I think they loved having something different and a pretty table set for them. My husband wrote me a beautiful poem and Will wrote a sweet letter telling me he loves me. By the way, the lovely clock is from Wes. He made it in Woodshop class. It is beautiful. Now, this is just random silliness as most of the days on this blog are but these are my two boys. They were home today for 30 minutes for lunch. They are being mesmerized by Sponge Bob. Yes, I said Sponge Bob. Good grief. Men just have to turn their brains off sometimes. They will kill me

B-Ball

Image
Good morning! We had another night full of basketball last night. Wes and his team beat a big rival and great team by one point. It was fun. I love this picture below. Wes does not look too happy but the boys sitting next to him are having fun. It just makes me laugh to look at them laughing! Wes is now 6 foot 3 in his tenny's and so slim and handsome. He did a good job guarding this guy. They have only one more game on Tue. night. Will and his team look to be tied for first place in district. After their Tue. game they will be playing game to game and will be out when and if they loose. Wouldn't it be fun if they went to Austin? We will see. Have a good one! This verse is on my mind this morning: My son, keep my words and store my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live, guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers and write them on the tablet of your heart. Prov. 7: 1-3

Valentines...

Image
Happy Valentines Day! I can't handle the pressure of what other people do on special occasions so I have given myself a pass on comparing my iddy bitty ideas with other people's. I have always given the boys those cheap little boxes of chocolate because they have always thought it was fun to figure out what was in the middle of each one. I have those ready for putting out at breakfast in the morning. I usually give a funny card, but have not gotten that done this year. Oh well, have to think out of the Valentines box. I actually think I am going to just sit down and write each of the people that I love that live in this house a love letter. Yes, that will do. Also, vanilla ice cream with Big Red or vanilla ice cream with Grape juice poured over it for Valentines dessert will be fun too. I hope that your Valentine's Day is a fun and love filled one. Take extra time to hug the one's you love really tight and tell them that you love them. Have a beautiful day! My Valentin

Casey Burl McCoy...going to Univ. of Texas

Image
Congratulations Case! Case McCoy has given a verbal commitment to play football for the University of Texas. Sorry about the title Case, but you will always be that precious little smiling Casey boy to me. I can hear you singing "You are my sunshine" right now. My how you have grown up. I am amazed that our boys are all so old. We are going to have three in college and one already graduated from college when Casey gets there. We are way too young for this responsibility! ha We are thrilled that he is going somewhere he is comfortable with and that he will be staying close to home so that Brad and Debra can see him play. It will also be nice that he already knows and has relationships with people at UT through Colt. Florida was way to far away. :) This was in the paper yesterday: Dallas Morning News- Another McCoy headed to Texas5:21 PM Tue, Feb 10, 2009 The Colt McCoy Era will end after the 2009 season but not the family's association with Texas. My Sweet Wesley and Dust

Image
Good morning. I am off in a few minutes to go and get my blood drawn to see how my thyroid is functioning. ugh. All I know is that I am gaining weight on this lower dose of synthroid. yuck. That is another topic for another day. Anyway, I have to take a moment to brag on my sweet Wesley. He is turning out to be such an artist. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting in a limited way. I look back into my family tree to Aunt Freda with her incredible art talent and to Rick Gibson who also inherited that blessing. I may have received a little of that talent but not anything like the ones mentioned above and the art ability that Wes has. It is so cool to watch him draw. He just looked at a small picture of this famous painting and drew it. He is in an art class at school and it having a lot of fun. We will see where it goes from here. So proud of him! Now, before I go into the rant below I have to thank God for the needed rain last night! It was so wonderful to hear it falling. We neede

Prayer Before Worship

We do a better job of imagining what worship will look like in heaven than what it might be like in church, Lord. We like the idea of crowns being cast before you. Of a numberless choir singing Holy! Holy! Holy! We are not even all that uncomfortable with a trumpet or two in that setting. Or bowing down, come to think of it, since everyone else will be doing it, too. It’s church that stumps us. Contrary to our strongest resolve, we too often file into the worship center wondering What are we in for today? And Will we sing any songs I know? Will I hear anything that makes any sense at all? These fears leave someone else—anyone else—in charge of what we receive. And what we contribute. Deliver back to us, Lord, a voice—a loud prophet’s voice—that calls us to enter your presence as your church with awe. With reverence. With anticipation. With wonder. Make bold our own voice to cry Today we want to hear a word from the Lord! Today we want to practice abandon in adoring you. So maybe heav

Football Signing Day

Image
What a fun morning it has been. Will signed to play football for Harding University at a reception this morning at 10:00am. Andrew Morris also signed a letter of intent to play for West Texas A&M University. Here are some pictures of the signing: Will being interviewed by a news station Proud Papa's with their boys. Will and Andrew Speedy Faith the outgoing Athletic Director and head Football Coach said a few words. Signed away our boy :) The happy recruits WT- buffaloes & Harding - Bisons This seems to have set the path for the next few years for Will. We are thrilled that he is going to Harding even though it is a long long drive. The coaches are men of character and have a great love for the Lord. It will a blessing for Will to play for them and a blessing for him to go to Harding University. Have a great day! Love, Amy
