My Mama and The Music...

There was always music in our house growing up.
Mom was a piano teacher and loved to play and we would sing with her as she played.

She loved and still loves music.
It is heart stirring unlike anything else.
There is something she loves more than music though.

Jesus.

Many years ago, God blessed her with the first song from a dream.
She heard children singing a sweet tune with words that went like this:

"As if the moon would fall down from the sky, as if the pretty birds would cease to fly, as if the waves would stop their tossing on the sea. As if my sweet Lord would stop loving me."

She learned to get up right then when she dreamed a song and tap the tune out on the piano and write down the words.
We started singing that song together as a family very soon after
she wrote it and have been singing it for years.
There were many more that the God gave her.
Some in dreams and some just thoughts from the Spirit.

Last summer was our last official time to sing as a family.
Many years ago when I was a junior in high school we were
asked to sing as recruiters for ACU at the Yosemite Family Encampment in California.
We went out to sing summer after summer and we were so blessed.
That encampment eventually shut down due to park regulations on large groups meeting outside
and we were asked to sing at the Red River Encampment.
There were also the multitudes of church singings and weddings and gospel gatherings like the Pepperdine lectures and ACU lectures.
How wonderful it all was for us to be able to be
together and to have a chance to sing about Jesus.
We give Him all the credit for helping us to sound
decent at all with the little time we ever had to practice Mom's songs.

There are no words to express how thankful I am for all of those years.

So- this is really a thank you to  You, Jesus.
How wonderful you are to have blessed us with the opportunity to sing for You.
Thank you for the blessing of being able to lift our voices time after time in song as we prayed that the words and music would bring people closer to You and in fellowship with You.

My heart constricts and tears flow when I think of such precious times.
I think of the many years of meeting people and stress and butterflies and practice and road trips and the love of a not so perfect family for each other.
How hard it is to put feelings into any words that can be meaningful enough to say how thankful we are.
Thank you Jesus.
We may not sing together much anymore on this earth, but we will sing together forever- someday.

If you are interested in having one of Mom's song books and our cd with all of her songs on it please leave me a message with your email address and we will get them to you. Dad only charges $11.00 for the CD to cover the cost of production and mailing. Thank you!

Thanks Amy. I wasn't asking for credit, I just thought it was neat to see it there.

I've got a copy of a picture with our moms singing together, along with Jeannette Lipford and some other ladies.
