Church Youth Groups = Good Times!

It was Time...
For a party with good food...
Lots of fun kids...

Silly games...

Plus...singing and talking about Jesus...
Youth group nights are awesome!
Rejoice, and again I say Rejoice!

Philippians 4: 4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

My Husband...

Sorry if I sound like I am bragging...I am a little I guess.

I am thankful this morning for my husband. I have been blessed. I did not deserve such a Godly, wonderful man. He has always put our children and myself first in his life. He has worked on his doctorate now for years but has done it slowly and methodically so that it would not interfere with our family life. He has made sure that he is always there for our boys events...whatever they were or are. He does not loose his temper ever...even though I have given him many reasons to do so over the years. He loves me even when I don't act right or look pretty or am sick. I'm not sure how I won this jackpot but,"Thank you Father God for this blessing."

Come to think of it...he is the man that he is because he tries to walk like Jesus and tries to imitate His life. So...we are really second in his life. Jesus is first. I am sure that is why he is such a great father and husband.
My husband...I love you dearly!

May I think the best of him in every circumstance,
May I laugh and sing and make our lives a dance.
May I build him up with the words I say,
May I give him reason to look forward to the day.
May I be quick to look over his mistakes,
And thank him for the efforts that he makes.
May he feel safe and know that I’m his biggest fan,
May I remember he is clay–he’s only just a man.
Let me love him the way I want to be,
Forgiving as Christ has forgiven me.
May I build my home by every word and deed,
And may love flourish from every planted seed.

10 Minute Bible Study: Smelling Coffee Blog...

My sweet sister-in-law Debra ran across this wonderful blog post on:
http://smellingcoffeetoday.blogspot.com/

This inspirational blog post is written by:
Jennifer Walker
This is an excellent guide about how to incorporate at least 10 minutes of bible study time per day. Especially good for young mother's who are fighting finding time to be still and talk to God and learn from the Word for even a short time each day. I pray that these ideas will bless you. They were a blessing to me. Thank you Jennifer!

How to start a daily Quiet Time

Desperate to spend some time with Jesus this year, but not sure how to do it or where to start? An intimate fellowship with The Lord, time in His Word, soaking in what He has to say to you and responding to Him as if you are "best friends" is offered to each one of us. We just have to take the time to invest in our relationship with The Lord.

Like building any friendship, it takes an investment of time, energy, and purpose. But friends, it is SO worth it!

If you have time to snooze in the mornings, you have time to spend a moment with Jesus. If you'll set your alarm back just 10 minutes earlier, and get up when it goes off, you can start your day filled and refreshed - rather than tired and cranky. I promise. You can never out-give God. You give Him those precious 10 minutes, and see just what He gives you in return... strength, encouragement, hope, a plan for your day, inspiration, peace... to name a few.

Soon, you'll find that 10 minutes just isn't enough, and you'll see such a "return" on your investment, that you'll be craving more and more time with Him.

Need a Jump Start? Here is a plan for 10 Precious Minutes with the Lord.
Have these items handy:

A Bible (easy to read & understand version - I LOVE the Amplified, Holeman Christan Standard, Message, and NIV)
Paper - I use a spiral notebook or several sheets of notebook paper folded up in my Bible for these moments with God.

A Pen or Pencil (highlighter optional)

Here's the plan:

1 minute - Submit yourself to the Lord. Bow yourself to Him, acknowledging Him as your King and Authority over you. Give yourself and your day to Him. Ask Him to speak to you.

1 minute - Praise God for three of His Characteristics and Thank God for three ways He's blessed you. Quickly write the date and record these on your paper.

1 minute - Ask God to create in you a clean heart (Ps. 51:10). As He reveals any unconfessed sin, repent of it lay it before Him. (Of course, this is more than a minute long process - it's an every day, all day long process. This minute just opens the door for the Lord to speak to you throughout the day about your sin. As He convicts you of sinning. Repent right then. Don't wait until later. Confess it. Ask for forgiveness immediately, and stay clean throughout the day. It's like washing your hands each time they get dirty, instead of waiting till the end of the day or the next morning. There are times we all need a long, deep spiritual cleansing, and I encourage you to set aside a special time with The Lord to do that.)

2 minutes - Ask God to fill you, cover you with His armor, shine through you, and speak to you.

"Fill me" - Colossians 2:10 says in the Jewish New Testament, "It is in union with Him that you have been made full." Especially when we are rushed and stressed, we tend to run on empty. It is in union with Jesus - this time together with Him before anything else depletes us - that we are made and kept full.

"Cover me" - Using Ephesians 6:10-14, put on the armor God has provided for you to wear in Victory! You might want to list the armor pieces at the top of your notebook paper so you can quickly go through and picture each piece. I picture myself putting them on piece by peace, as I speak each piece aloud, thanking God for this awesome protection.

"Shine through me" - Pray that you will "Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your Light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you." Isaiah 60:1

"Speak to me" - Pray Psalm 119:18, "Open my eyes that I might see wonderful things in Your Law." and get ready for God to reveal Himself to you through His Word.

(Now, you're about 5 minutes into the 10.)

3 minutes - Read God's Word. Have a specific place in the Bible in mind, so you won't waste your time randomly searching. I'm going through Psalms right now. Other wonderful books are Proverbs, John, James, Philippians... they are all so wonderful, it's hard to choose one. But for this quick quiet time, I would encourage you to stick to one of the books mentioned above.

There is just something special about getting a Word from what I like to call "the raw Word of God". Now, I LOVE devotional books and Bible studies... and I encourage you to find time through out your day to add a Bible study or devotional book reading to your life. But if you truly have only 10 minutes, I encourage you to spend them in God's Word first and add what someone else has written about God's Word later. {If you have The Holy Spirit living within you, He will speak to you just as He speaks to those who write those devotions and Bible studies... That is...if you ask Him to then get in His Word.} :-)
Start at the beginning, and read for 3 minutes or until you have some type of "reaction" (Wow! or Oh, You are so Good, Lord! or I am so sorry! or I never thought of it like that before... or even, I don't understand...)

1 minute - On your paper, under your praise/thanks, write the reference for what you just read, then write your reaction. This makes Scripture come alive, because God has just spoken to you, revealing His Truth to you in some way, and in your reaction, you are responding to Him. It's like you are writing to each other. This is so important, because as we get busy, we tend to forget the wonderful things The Lord revealed to us. Having them written down, gives us a reminder of and a visible picture of God's activity in our lives at the moment. These types of papers are a treasure to me.

1 minute - Pray these truths into your life. Ask God to help these truths be a reality in your own life.

As you begin your day, after the 10 minutes is up, continue to talk with Jesus about the day ahead, about your family, and pray that these same truths would be found in the lives of those you love and those heavy on your heart. Drive to work with Him... fold the laundry with Him... acknowledge The Lord in your daily life ... lingering in His presence as you would your best and dearest friend... the presence of His fellowship and the awareness of His personal involvement in your life will be a sweet blessing and reward for seeking Him!

No matter how busy the day ahead becomes, or what lies ahead, this 10 minutes with the Lord will help jump start the day with the breath of the Lord God Almighty propelling us forward in His strength, joy, and fellowship.

Blessings! Amy

Zucchini & Yellow Squash Casserole....Yum...

I am not really a fan of watching much TV. I like the HGTV shows and could become addicted to seeing makeovers of homes on that channel, but avoid watching too much for fear of giving in to my couch potato leanings. Anyway...Wes LOVES cooking shows and records them and comes home after school and watches them. Interesting. I was walking through the room a week or so ago and the Kitchen Boss was making this dish...we wrote it down and made it. WOW it is good!
Wes will even eat squash prepared this way and it is easy.
(He insists that he has to have Italian blood in him.)

Zucchini and Yellow Squash Casserole by Buddy Valestro
INGREDIENTS
2 each medium zucchini and yellow squash, approximately 2 pounds
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sun dried tomato pesto
1 Tablespoon chopped oregano
1 Tablespoon chopped parsley
1/4 cup good olive oil
1‑2 large shallots, thinly sliced lengthwise, (I just use regular onions.)
1 cup Buddy's Breadcrumbs or bought and crunched up bread crumbs
1‑1/2 cups shredded Fontal or Cheddar Cheese
PREPARATION:

1.Preheat oven to 400°. Thinly slice (less than 1/4") the zucchini and yellow squash into circles. Toss squashes with salt and let sit in colander to drain 15 minutes. Pat dry.
2.In a large bowl, stir together the pesto, herbs, olive oil and shallots. Add the squash and combine all well. Pour into an 8" x 12 1/2" shallow baking dish (or similar capacity). Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes.
3.In the same bowl you used to toss the squash, and without wiping out, toss the breadcrumbs and cheese together, absorbing the oil left in the bowl.
4.Remove the foil from the squash and top with the crumb/cheese mixture. Bake and additional 20 minutes, uncovered. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Enjoy.
I made ours a little different last night. In a skillet instead of in the oven. Worked just fine.
It is so beautiful outside today. Little cold front came through and everything seems crisp and clean and lovely.
This squirrel is having fun running around our front yard.

Wes is even more into the Cake Boss. I have to admit that he makes cakes that just seem impossible to make.
Unbelievable the talent that God has given to people.

I love this quote:
"Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."
Albert Einstein

We all have beautiful gifts that God has given us. We have to find out what they are even if they are not real obvious and use them for the glory of God. I tell our boys all of the time not to walk another person's path. Look for your own. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Psalm 139:13-17
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts,God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.

Romans 12:6-8
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Beautiful full moons...

And this other boy, next year...
Enjoying having this other boy right here though, right now.

Because Nice Matters...

I am not sure if this is a true story or not, but I hope it is. It is a good one...

It Don't Cost "Nuthin'" to be Nice At a Touchdown Club meeting many years before his death, Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant told the following story:

I had just been named the new head coach at Alabama and was off in my old car down in South Alabama recruiting a prospect who was supposed to have been a pretty good player and I was havin' trouble finding the place. Getting hungry I spied an old cinder block building with a small sign out front that simply said "Restaurant."

I pull up, go in and every head in the place turns to stare at me. Seems I'm the only white fella in the place. But the food smelled good so I skip a table and go up to a cement bar and sit. A big ole man in a tee shirt and cap comes over and says, "What do you need?" I told him I needed lunch and what did they have today? He says, "You probably won't like it here, today we're having chitlins, collared greens and black eyed peas with cornbread. I'll bet you don't even know what chitlins (small intestines of hogs prepared as food in the deep South) are, do you?" I looked him square in the eye and said, "I'm from Arkansas , I've probably eaten a mile of them. Sounds like I'm in the right place." They all smiled as he left to serve me up a big plate.. When he comes back he says, "You ain't from around here then?"

I explain I'm the new football coach up in Tuscaloosa at the University and I'm here to find whatever that boy's name was and he says, yeah I've heard of him, he's supposed to be pretty good. And he gives me directions to the school so I can meet him and his coach.

As I'm paying up to leave, I remember my manners and leave a tip, not too big to be flashy, but a good one and he told me lunch was on him, but I told him for a lunch that good, I felt I should pay.

The big man asked me if I had a photograph or something he could hang up to show I'd been there. I was so new that I didn't have any yet. It really wasn't that big a thing back then to be asked for, but I took a napkin and wrote his name and address on it and told him I'd get him one.
I met the kid I was lookin' for later that afternoon and I don't remember his name, but do remember I didn't think much of him when I met him. I had wasted a day, or so I thought.

When I got back to Tuscaloosa late that night, I took that napkin from my shirt pocket and put it under my keys so I wouldn't forget it. Back then I was excited that anybody would want a picture of me. The next day we found a picture and I wrote on it, "Thanks for the best lunch I've ever had."

Now let's go a whole buncha years down the road. Now we have black players at Alabama and I'm back down in that part of the country scouting an offensive lineman we sure needed. Y'all remember, (and I forget the name, but it's not important to the story), well anyway, he's got two friends going to Auburn and he tells me he's got his heart set on Auburn too, so I leave empty handed and go on see some others while I'm down there.

Two days later, I'm in my office in Tuscaloosa and the phone rings and it's this kid who just turned me down, and he says, "Coach, do you still want me at Alabama ?" And I said, "Yes I sure do." And he says OK, he'll come. And I say, "Well son, what changed your mind?" And he said, "When my grandpa found out that I had a chance to play for you and said no, he pitched a fit and told me I wasn't going nowhere but Alabama, and wasn't playing for nobody but you. He thinks a lot of you and has ever since y'all met." Well, I didn't know his granddad from Adam's housecat so I asked him who his granddaddy was and he said, "You probably don't remember him, but you ate in his restaurant your first year at Alabama and you sent him a picture that he's had hung in that place ever since. That picture's his pride and joy and he still tells everybody about the day that Bear Bryant came in and had chitlins with him."

"My grandpa said that when you left there, he never expected you to remember him or to send him that picture, but you kept your word to him, and to Grandpa, that's everything. He said you could teach me more than football and I had to play for a man like you, so I guess I'm going to."

I was floored. But I learned that the lessons my mama taught me were always right. It don't cost nuthin' to be nice. It don't cost nuthin' to do the right thing most of the time, and it costs a lot to lose your good name by breakin' your word to someone.

When I went back to sign that boy, I looked up his Grandpa and he's still running that place, but it looks a lot better now; and he didn't have chitlins that day, but he had some ribs that woulda made Dreamland proud and I made sure I posed for a lot of pictures; and don't think I didn't leave some new ones for him, too, along with a signed football.

I made it clear to all my assistants to keep this story and these lessons in mind when they're out on the road. If you remember anything else from me, remember this. It really doesn't cost anything to be nice, and the rewards can be unimaginable.

Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant

Editor's Note:

Coach Bryant was in the presence of these few gentlemen for only minutes, and he defined himself for life. Regardless of our profession, we do define ourselves by how we treat others, and how we behave in the presence of others, and most of the time, we have only minutes or seconds to leave a lasting impression. We can be rude, crude, arrogant, cantankerous, or we can be nice. Nice is always a better choice.

Another Last...

In the mornings after enjoying my Bible time I turn the computer on and open the blinds of this window. The view is quite lovely. Our backyard looks out into a few acres of undeveloped land. It is wild looking and I love it. I especially love the really tall pine tree you can see in the middle of the picture.

As I looked out this morning I pondered on another last for our senior boy. I guess another last for us too, and I am feeling pretty sentimental about it all. Pictures of his last basketball game are below. It was a tough season as I stated a few days ago and we were ready for it to be over but now when I think about it...well...high school sports are now over for our family. Wow.

Makes me think about all of the school lunches that I have made for our boys through the years. To tell you the awful truth...I used to dislike making lunches. Why? I don't know. Selfishness maybe. I have no idea. I guess it just got tedious through the years. Maybe it was the comments I heard sometimes about how they did not particularly like what was in them sometimes. Usually though they were nice and gracious. But, lately, I love making our gentle giant's lunches. Funny how it just depends on how you look at it. I am about to work myself out of my everyday Mom job and I am cherishing every minute and every action and every activity. I have loved this job. Of course, I will always be their Mom, but I just know it will look different and feel different and I am asking God to walk me through it. My heart feels a bit fragile right now and a lot weepy. I have the best job ever. Thank you God for every minute of the past twenty years.

Pour out your heart like water
before the face of the Lord.
Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children.
Lamentations 2:19

Arise, shine: for your light has come! and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.

Real Heaven...

This wonderful little book is written by Steve Hemphill.
What do you see in your mind’s eye when you hear the word “heaven”? Do you see transparent people floating on clouds and playing harps? Or do you imagine a perpetual praise and worship service, singing “Holy, Holy, Holy” for all eternity? This often-promoted Christian view of eternity doesn’t even appeal to the saved—much less to the unsaved. But is this the true, biblical picture? Not even close.

Possible scenario when entering heaven:
(Angel)“You are about to take your first breath of heaven’s air. You will likely cough and gag as you did when you took your first earthly breath, but not for the same reason. The atmosphere of the shadow land (earth) is rank with the smell of sulfur, caused by sin, and the shame of mankind’s fall. It is so full of ugliness caused by the curse of sin that we are amazed you can breathe at all. When you cough and gag on your first heavenly breath, it is to remove the last of the stench caused by the environment of fallen earth. After that, you will scarcely be able to believe how pure and wonderful the air of heaven smells. Fill your lungs with it. Enjoy it to the fullest. You never have to breathe the stench again.

“I’m taking you to the real world. The world you were made for. And you will be with the One who made it all just for you. He loves you more than you can possibly know. All angels have trouble understanding the King’s plan to save mankind, but we know that you—not we—were created to be his image-bearers. We are his servants, sent to serve those who will be saved. I am honored to have been with you.

“When I deliver you safely, I must be on my way to my next assignment. We will meet again.

“Your first pleasure in the new world will be a welcome party. Many old acquaintances will be renewed, and many you have never met are eager to greet you. I will see you again soon.”

With that, the escorting angel left in a flash of light. Then the party begins.

I am LOVING this book. I mean really, how often do we dwell or think about or ponder heaven? I wish that I were so excited about it that I anticipate it like an incredible vacation that I am planning. I pray that I can get so excited about it that I can't help but spread the good news of Jesus and tell people about this incredible place we are going to. Yes, I am pondering heaven, and I am liking the thought of it. You can buy his book under his store tab on this website: http://www.prayerthoughts.com/

Now...on to my wildlife WILD pictures from yesterday. Oh my goodness.

I was inside the house and heard a swooshing noise. LOUD! I looked out and it was spooky. Black birds everywhere. It looked like a scene out of "The Birds". I grabbed my camera and clicked some shots. I could not even get all the birds into the frame. It was very strange. I have never seen anything like it. Amazing. They were there for about five minutes and then flew the coop. Adios. Flew away to terrify some other Alfred Hitchcock movie lover. :)

This Red bird seems to be making a funny face and saying, " I am going to eat it all if you don't get over here!"

Some happy little tulips (I think) that I picked up at Wally world a few days ago.
They are lovely.

Well, off to get something done. A walk...I think, folding lots of clothes, figuring out supper...etc.
My husband's quote for the day:
Get busy livin or get busy dyin- Shawshank
Another better quote for today:
Ps. 35: 10-
Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord and delight in His salvation.
My whole being will exclaim,
"Who is like You, O Lord?"

Valentine's Sweet...

Cheryl's Marshmallow Crescent Rolls

2 Package's of Crescent rolls

16 marshmallows

1 T Cinnamon

Fourth cup of sugar

1 stick of butter

Separate crescent rolls. Take marshmallow and roll in melted butter and then in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place on the long end of the roll and roll up to the small point around the marshmallow. Dip the roll in melted butter and place in a muffin tin. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes or until golden. Frost while warm with a frosting made from powdered sugar and water. (Great without frosting too.) Enjoy...

I pray that this Valentine's Day is finding you well and cheerful. I think for a lot of people Valentine's Day is not a particularly wonderful day depending on your circumstances. For you that feel left out or unloved or sad...may the joy of the Lord be your strength and your song. For too many years I have put too high of expectations on Valentine's Day. I guess that is just because I am a girl and there has always been so much hype about it. I don't think I really meant too but I did. My husband and boys love me and show appreciation most every day. I am blessed and thankful. What more could a girl ask for than to be loved all of the time including this Valentine's holiday? Love you Sidney! You too W and W!
My Sweetheart...

Blessings on your Valentine's Day!

I speak from experience saying...don't wait for someone to make your day special today...go out and bless and make someone else's day special!

Scripture for today:

Matt. 28:18-20

Jesus came to them and said:

I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you.

I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.

Valentine's Candy...

Valentine's Mix
Salted Large Peanuts (Planter's)
Pink Candy Corn
Pink M&M's (optional)
Mix and Enjoy.
WAY too good.
My friend Denise first introduced us to this wonderful little snacking treat. It is addictive...so be careful. Adding the Valentine's pink candy corn would be a cute way to celebrate for Valentines if you need party candy.

Scripture for today that jumped out at me was:
Ps. 32:
7 You are my hiding place, You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
11 Rejoice and be glad, you righteous. Sing, all you who are upright in heart.
I do have a bit of news today. Our oldest William found out a few days ago that he made the Aggie football team. We are so proud of him. Interesting days ahead. He will have to make it through spring practice without getting cut and find his spot, but we think he can do it. Won't it be fun going to games in Kyle Field and seeing young William on the sidelines and even playing! He will do it I just know it. My prayer though, is that God's purpose in all of this will be evident to him. I pray he will be a light to all he comes in contact with.
I pray for him to Stand.
Eph. 6:10-13 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think this football team is evil (ha) but I am praying for his steadfastness in a new, different, overwhelming world.
Enough rambling thoughts for one morning...
Blessings on your day. Sure hope that it warms up! I LOVE the winter time but I am ready to thaw out! Come on spring!!

Camp Blue Haven...Registration Time!

Ecclesiastes 12:1
Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth...

If you have not registered and retained your spot as a returning camper for this coming summer you need to do it by Feb. 15th! You will loose your spot if you don't remember to register by that date. If you are interested in registering as a first time camper go here and register:
http://campbluehaven.com/

There are still a few openings in a few sessions. There is a waiting list in other sessions and if you don't register as a returning camper your spot will be filled with campers on the waiting list.

Don't miss the best one or two weeks of the year!

May I learn as I live and grow, God forsakes me never.

Camp Blue Haven is a one- or two-week camp for youth entering fifth grade through high school graduates. Located in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in New Mexico, the camp provides lots of fun in the outdoors. God’s scenic beauty serves to enhance the spiritual atmosphere of the camping sessions. Christians worshipping God and helping others grow in the likeness of Christ while singing, praying, studying and playing together makes for an unforgettable experience.

A typical summer will see between 1000 and 1200 campers in attendance from all over the Southwest. There is no discrimination because of race, color, national origin or religious affiliation.

The Camp’s 1,100 acres consist of rugged mountain terrain covered with an abundance of pine, spruce and aspen. The 160,000 acre Santa Fe National Forest adjoins Blue Haven property. Two beautiful streams, the Blue and the Tecolote, flow through camp property and there are two man made ponds which are stocked each year with trout for fishing.

Blessings! Amy
